What missions can do for you
- Issue and renew Ethiopian passports for citizens abroad — biometrics are captured at the mission.
- Issue the Ethiopian Origin ID (yellow card) for Ethiopian-born foreign citizens, which gives visa-free entry and most residency rights.
- Authenticate documents, register births and issue emergency travel documents.
- Answer visa questions for foreign spouses and family members.
Before you go
- Most missions require an appointment — check the website or call first.
- Bring your old passport or Ethiopian ID plus your residence permit; exact requirements vary by mission.
- Passports for applicants abroad are printed in Ethiopia, so allow several weeks and ask the mission for its current processing time.
Your country is not listed?
